“Antique” .44-40 Etched Panel

Made in 1880

Colt SAA .44-40 etched panel, serial number 59027.

Colt SAA .44-40

7 ½" barrel, bore fair to good with strong rifling and blemishes. Factory nickel finish, 85-90% remaining. Etched panel is light, but fully visible and complete. All markings are good and all numbers match.  The small "44" is on the barrel bottom as it should be.  There is a six point star stamped on the rear right side of the trigger guard indicating that the gun was returned to the factory for repairs.  The ejector rod was replaced with an updated half moon type and the firing pin was also replaced.  The hammer may have been renickled at this time, as it appears to be slightly brighter than the rest of the revolver.  Wood grips are good with slight shrinkage but do not appear to have been sanded. There are a couple of light compression marks on the grips as if it was put in a vice at one time and the bottom corners have been knocked off slightly – it is not as bad as it sounds. The hammer does not hold on the safety notch, otherwise the mechanics are good and it locks up tight.  A factory letter is included, verifying all features (including nickel) except barrel length, stocks and repairs.   A very nice etched panel gun, hard to find with a whole panel still intact.
