The rifle is in excellent mechanical condition, with perfect bores and the automatic ejectors work perfectly. Weight is approx. 10 pounds and the stock measures 14” from the front trigger to the end of the wood, 14 7/8” to the end of the recoil pad. It comes with a Winchester take down case, also in excellent condition.
About 97-99% of the original blue finish is present on the barrels. The rifle shows only slight use and handling marks, with the exception of one tiny chip of wood missing at the right side plate (see photo).

This Franz Sodia double rifle was special ordered in 1977 by “Winchester Custom Guns, Dobbs Ferry, New York” and is so marked under the barrels. It is a first quality, hammerless double rifle – caliber .458 Winchester Mag. Automatic ejectors, 26” Chopper Lump Barrels, false sideplates, greener style cross bolt, and open sights.
A gold Lion is on the underside of the receiver. The wood is also deluxe, best quality European walnut with beautiful fine-line checkering. Most all of the original finish is on the wood and a factory installed Pachmayer white line recoil pad is present and good.
This exact rifle was on display at the “Alpine Village” in Torrance, California for many years and was un-fired up until 2006.
Sodia Firearms was in business in Ferlach, Austria for nearly 100 years and were known for their superb quality and excellent engraving. They were famous for double-barrel guns (rifles & shotguns) and three-barrel combination guns. They closed their doors in 1992.
To have a gun of this quality, custom made today, would cost in excess of $75,000.00.

Both barrels are marked “BOHLER – RASANT” & “Winchester .458 Mag.” The rifle is profusely high relief engraved in maple leaf motif and African game scenes. The engraving is of the highest quality and extends on to the barrels at the chamber end. A heavy bold relief gold appliqué of a Lion and Elephant head are on the barrel engraved section. The frame and false side plates show a satin grey finish, engraved in animal scenes with 3 gold inlaid Cape Buffalo on one side and 3 Elephant on the other.
